These taps are mainly used for tapping pipe fittings.
Their chief characteristic is the taper thread necessary to secure tight joints in pipe fittings.
The taper is 3/4" per foot.

Interrupted thread taper pipe taps have every other tooth removed from alternate levels, with the exception of the first few threads at the chamfer.
The removal of every other tooth helps break the chips and permits a more thorough lubrication to the cutting teeth thus helping to eliminate torn threads.

These short dryseal taper pipe taps are manufactured to automotive standards for taps used to thread shallow holes.
